A GLP-1 Might Be Worth Exploring

You’re excited about trying a GLP-1 — that makes sense. These medications are new, generating real momentum, and have created genuine change for a lot of people. The fact that you’re here weighing your options tells us you also want to go in with your eyes open, so here’s what’s worth knowing first.

Results aren’t automatic. A GLP-1 isn’t a guarantee of weight loss on its own — long-term results still come down to what you eat. You can out-eat a GLP-1, and you can gain weight even while on one.

The side effects are real, and the legal picture is still unfolding. Most side effects are mild — nausea, fatigue, digestive changes. But European regulators concluded in 2025 that NAION — a rare, sometimes permanent form of sudden vision loss — is a known, if very rare, side effect of semaglutide medications like Ozempic and Wegovy. That finding, along with related research, has led to thousands of U.S. lawsuits and an active federal litigation as of mid-2026, which are still working its way through the courts.

That said, these medications genuinely help people who’ve struggled before. If you deal with constant “food noise,” or already know all the right things to do but can’t seem to follow through, a GLP-1 may be a real fit for you.

They also tend to work better, and more safely, alongside real nutrition support. Without coaching, people on GLP-1s often see slower results, earlier plateaus, or more pronounced side effects — frequently because appetite suppression leads to skipped meals, which can work against the medication rather than with it. Coaching handles what the prescription doesn’t: what to eat, how to structure your days, and — if you ever want it — a plan for maintaining your results so you’re not relying on the medication for life.

Awaken180° nutritionists and coaches are prepared to help you lose weight with or without a GLP-1, and are here to help you keep the weight off, for life.

Linda, No Longer Pre-Diabetic

“A colleague of mine who’s on a GLP-1 went in for a doctor’s appointment, and a body composition scan showed he was losing muscle — not fat. He wasn’t hungry enough to get enough protein in. Hearing his story helped affirm that I’d made the right decision, because with coaching, I’m down 20 pounds while building muscle.”

We understand this is a big decision.
