My doctor just diagnosed me with Diabetes and told me I need to find an exercise plan to lose some weight. Can you help?

We help a number of diabetics, and many of our Type II diabetics actually balance their blood sugar levels, normalize their A1C’s and decrease or even get off of all their medication. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve put on some weight. I’m 72 and weigh 160. I know I’m getting older, so I can’t get back to my high school weight, but I would at least like to lose 10 pounds before my granddaughters wedding this summer.

Iris, just because you’ve gotten older doesn’t mean you can’t get back to a weight that made you feel good! There is no reason you should be carrying around any extra weight now than you did in your twenties. Losing those first 10 pounds will be easy; our goal will then be to bring you into your ideal body fat and visceral fat ranges. I wouldn’t be surprised if you reach that high school weight and maintain it! By making a plan unique for your metabolism, you’ll see that age doesn’t make much of a difference at all.

I am what you call a chronic dieter and I have done so many diet programs that the thought of wasting more money on another weight loss diet makes me sick. And it is not just the money, it is the feeling of me being a complete failure, I get all excited about losing weight and then when I get hungry after the first few days to a week, I just pig out and quit. I weigh 220 pounds at 5’5” and it is all in my butt and belly and arms and face. Probably 80 pounds, makes me sick because 10 years ago I was 140 pounds a looked amazing, compared to now. Overheard some folks talking about Awaken180° in Starbucks but I am too embarrassed to even call your office. God, I hate me.

Karen, you are not alone, and it is not your fault! I have heard so many stories like yours, and I want you to know that change is possible! In fact, many of our skilled consultants have been in your shoes not long ago. I wish I could speak to you more about your history, but I am suspecting that you have a history of following low calorie diets? I can imagine you were literally starving yourself and not getting enough food, and especially not the right kind of food that your unique body type specifically needs. You should never be hungry on a diet, and if a client tells me they are hungry on the Awaken180° program, then that is a signal to me that we need to add more food and better nutrition. I am sorry for you past experiences, and this will not happen to you with the Awaken180° program. Every person/body is unique, no two people react the same metabolically and therefore individual dietary needs must be taken into consideration. Sometimes it can take a few days of a new dietary protocol to uncover your unique needs, so we urge our new clients to keep in frequent communication with the Awaken180° coaches throughout their program.
